The best beaches and coves in Alicante

The Costa Blanca is a full experience for our senses. The beaches and coves of the province of Alicante are some of the most beautiful in the entire Mediterranean Sea. There are more than 200 beaches on a coastline of approximately 250 km, that´s nothing!.You can choose which of them best suits your needs and hobbies. No matter where your imagination flies, you will be able to know how to enjoy what you have chosen . If you prefer water sports, there are many beaches with all kinds of offer, as follows: snorkeling, water skiing, jet skiing, kayaking, windsurfing, kitesurfing, recreational or sports sailing, or one of the most popular today, the paddle surf. And if you are imagining yourself lying on the fine sand, reading a book in a fantastic and idyllic cove, you will find true gems. The following are some of the most famous and popular coves in the province of Alicante.

CALA GRANADELLA (Xàbia)

Among the beaches of Alicante, La Granadella occupies one of the last almost virgin spaces on the coast. Protected from the wind by rocky cliffs, it is the champion of all the charms of the Marina Alta. There is no sand, but gravel and white rocks and a sea so transparent - the blue flag has been waving here since 1987 - that it is ideal for diving and snorkeling. Xabia is an underwater paradise thanks to the funds of the Cap de Sant Antoni Marine Reserve. This privileged corner of the Mediterranean is ideal to let yourself be swayed by the sound of the waves and rest while you feel the aroma of saltpeter, lavender and rosemary that grows in the surrounding mountains.

COVES ON THE ISLAND OF TABARCA

In front of Cabo de Santa Pola (Alicante) you will find one of the most emblematic places on the Mediterranean coast. Tabarca is an entire historical, natural and cultural heritage, declared a Site of Cultural Interest as a Historic Site since 1964. The central beach separates the inhabited part from the non-inhabited part. Just behind, is the port where the tabarqueras dock. With more stone than sand and pyramid-shaped tower on the horizon, it stands out for its transparent waters of a turquoise colour that one would say typical of the Caribbean. The reason that Tabarca has some of the best beaches in Alicante is because the area has been protected as a Marine Reserve of fishing interest since 1986 and because of the excellent condition of its oceanic Posidonia meadow. Swimming in its waters is a must for tourists and residents of the Alicante coast. Boats leave from different parts of the province, with very long schedules, to enjoy a day, or even a holiday on its romantic island. We can imagine dozens of activities to do there, but if you have the possibility of spending the night in Tabarca, there is an indescribable one that you will always remember, a night walk. Its cozy streets, and its sky clean of light pollution transport you to times where nature and man lived a perfect symbiosis.

CALA DEL MORAIG (Poble Nou de Benitatxell)

In the succession of cliffs that form Les Morres de Benitatxell, there are some of the most beautiful beaches in Alicante. This is the case of Cala del Moraig, an authentic marvel of turquoise waters, open to steep stone cliffs of more than one hundred meters. It has more rolling stones than sand on its beaches, and some submarine caves to explore while snorkelling. A paradisiacal enclave that attracts a large number of bathers in August who care little about the difficulty of access in order to enjoy the landscape and the sound of the waves like the old pirates who sailed this part of Alicante's coastline.

Unexpected and photogenic, this is the Cala del Moraig, with gravel and crystalline waters, one of the most charismatic on the Costa Blanca, located in Poble Nou de Benitatxell, in the Alicante region of Marina Alta, a municipality surrounded by crop fields and sheltered by the Puig de la Llorença massif, which collapses creating geological formations, cliffs and coves as it falls into the Mediterranean.

MUCHAVISTA BEACH (Campello)

Muchavista beach is the most familiar and lively beach in El Campello. Part of the credit goes to the promenade that escorts it, the nerve center of summer life. Along there you can find horchaterias, ice cream parlors, beach restaurants, rice shops and terraces where you can spend the afternoon after a morning at the beach. Despite this urban aspect and its proud Blue Flag, the beach holds a small natural treasure in which you can still see small fishing boats beached on the gravel shore. For more references to this picturesque place, ask for the Racó de la Zofra, just at the northern end, In order to get there you just have to follow the sand until it almost disappears into the sea. Without a doubt, one of the most picturesque corners among the beaches of Alicante.

CALA MOSCA BEACH (Orihuela Costa)

Large green sand dunes rich in vegetation lead to this beautiful white sand shore. The walk through uneven dunes to reach the beach rewards people who visit Cala Mosca Beach with a calm and peaceful environment, and a soft and sandy seabed ideal for swimming. Due to the privacy offered by the cliffs, this is also the main naturist or nudist beach in Orihuela Costa. In summer, there is also a beachfront chiringuito, with comfortable outdoor seating and a wide variety of drinks and light meals. The grassy dunes and gentle coastline make Playa Cala Mosca an ideal place for a healthy relaxing walk, especially early in the morning. This beautiful cove is located in the northern part of a quiet urbanization of chalets. Access from the southern part is via the promenade, next to a park on the rocky coastline. The walk narrows and borders a large part of Cala La Mosca. The northern part is a small elevation above the sea. It is an undeveloped area, a preamble to the virgin coastline that extends to Punta Prima. Along this path you will reach the next beach north of Cala La Mosca, which is Cabo Peñas Beach, more secluded and sheltered by a small slope next to the sea.

ROQUETA BEACH (Guardamar del Segura)

It is an open beach located in the same urban area in the town of Guardamar del Segura, which also covers part of a semi-urban area at its southern end. It adjoins Playa Centro to the north and Moncayo beach to the south. Its fine golden sand, the quality of its waters and the services it offers make it very attractive to spend the day with the family. Excellent access and the tranquility typical of coves and/or beaches that are difficult to access,  make this unique beach an icon of the Costa Blanca. You can enjoy walks along the shore, heading south, which will take you into practically virgin sections, being able to alternate walks with baths in the clean and pleasant Mediterranean Sea.
